Ministry Encourages Farming Community to Make Use of Latest Technology
Malaysia’s Agriculture Ministry is encouraging the local farming community to make use of the latest technology to sell their farming products online.
The Agriculture and Food Industries (Mafi) Ministry is urging the farming community to adopt technology like e-commerce platforms. E-commerce platforms would help farmers market their products online to generate sales. It was important that the community does this since technology has a proven track record of boosting sales.
Proof of technology’s effectiveness in generating sales is evident. Mafi produced more than RM300 million worth of agricultural sales revenue from e-commerce platforms. These platforms were developed when the Covid-19 pandemic made it necessary in 2020.
Some examples of these online platforms are Nekmatbiz, Agro Bazaar Online, and e-peladang. These platforms are run by the National Fishermen’s Association (Nekmat), Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority, and Farmers’ Organisation Authority (LPP).
A Growing Online Marketplace
Selling farming products online in Malaysia is one of the many online businesses that have started since Covid-19. The ministry hopes that both organisations and consumers will continue the use of these platforms to buy and sell their agricultural produce.
The ministry is also supportive if the private sector farming community develops similar e-commerce platforms for that purpose. Mafi has also been working to develop online applications that will help facilitate sales and marketing.
The business needs to get back on track and one way to do it is by tapping into the resources that we have. Online platforms have become a necessary marketing tool these days. By adopting technology and applying it the way it should, Malaysia’s companies and quickly regain the momentum they had before the Covid-19 pandemic.
