Malaysian Business Reporting System (MBRS)

Malaysian Business Reporting System (MBRS)The Malaysian Business Reporting System (MBRS) is a platform introduced by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) to streamline the submission of corporate information. It enables companies to submit annual returns, financial statements, and exemption applications in digital format. Launched in 2018, MBRS aligns with the push for efficient and transparent regulatory compliance.

MBRS leverages the eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL), an international standard for business reporting. This system ensures consistency, reduces errors, and improves the accuracy of submitted data. By adopting XBRL, MBRS promotes data integrity and facilitates easier analysis by regulatory authorities.

The system covers three key filing categories: Annual Return (AR), Financial Statements and Reports (FS), and Exemption Applications (EA). Businesses are required to prepare submissions using the MBRS Preparation Tool (mTool), which generates documents in the required format.

The introduction of MBRS simplifies compliance for companies while allowing SSM to process information more efficiently. It reduces the need for manual processes and promotes environmentally friendly practices by minimising paper usage.

Designed for ease of use, MBRS enhances Malaysia’s business environment by fostering greater transparency and operational efficiency. Its adoption marks a significant step towards modernising the country’s regulatory landscape.
