Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (Malaysia)
The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), or Kementerian Pelaburan, Perdagangan dan Industri in Malay, is a key government agency in Malaysia. It is responsible for driving the country’s economic growth by fostering trade, investment, and industrial development. Established in 1956, MITI plays a central role in enhancing Malaysia’s global competitiveness.
MITI’s primary objectives include promoting foreign and domestic investment, facilitating international trade, and supporting industrial development to strengthen the national economy. It oversees the implementation of policies aimed at boosting exports, attracting investors, and advancing local industries to compete in global markets.
Several agencies operate under MITI, such as the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), tasked with facilitating investments, and MATRADE, which supports Malaysian exporters. Other important agencies include the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) and SME Corporation Malaysia, focusing on enhancing productivity and supporting small and medium enterprises.
MITI also represents Malaysia in trade negotiations, such as free trade agreements, ensuring the country secures favourable terms. It works closely with other ministries, businesses, and international organisations to maintain sustainable economic growth.
With a commitment to innovation and industrial modernisation, MITI continues to drive Malaysia’s transition towards a high-income, globally integrated economy.
