SSM Malaysia Company Name Search – Choosing a Name
Investors who are thinking of registering a company in Malaysia would need to go through the Companies Commission of Malaysia, or the SSM as they are better known. The Companies Commission of Malaysia is the regulating body for all legal companies and businesses established in Malaysia and the entire business registration process begins and ends with the SSM.
To form a business a Malaysia requires a unique business name to begin with, and even selecting an appropriate business name requires going through the SSM. The SSM’s official website provides a name search service tool – the SSM Malaysia company name search- in which all investors can go, conduct a quick search online to see if the company name they have in mine is unique or already in use, before proceeding to the SSM office to file the necessary paperwork for company incorporation.
Choosing a Unique Business Name
Seeing as how there are more than one million registered business in Malaysia, choosing a unique business name can prove to be tricky. An idea you have for your business name may have already been done, or be similar to another established business, in which case you won’t be able to use that name and have to go back and start from scratch again.
SSM Malaysia’s company name search feature on their website will save you a lot of time and effort in coming up with a company name. A quick search online is all you need to determine if you have to spend more time brainstorming, or if your business name is good to go. It is important that all business names get an official approval from the SSM if they are to legally operate in the country.
How Reliable is the SSM Malaysia Company Name Search Feature?
While the SSM website can assist in determining if your intended business name has been registered for use, the SS is unable to provide a guarantee of a name search application because the search results obtained from Google may not necessarily include companies which are not online.
SSM is also unable to guarantee that the name search results are conclusive because some names may not be shown in the results depending on the accuracy of the information that is being keyed in. A simple comma or a letter could make all the difference in the world, the more accurately the keyword is keyed into the system, the more accurate the search results may be.
The SSM name search does not detect old company names as well. For example, if a company known as AAZ was formerly known as just AZ, the old name does not appear in the system, which could prove to be a liability when selecting a company name.
